News August 2009
Due to pressure of work and play, the new CD "Over anD over Again" has been delayed, hopefully it should be ready for Spring 2010
2009 has been a very busy year so far, here are some of the highlights.
As usual there have been lots of gigs this year, some in familiar venues, which are great to catch up with old friends and some have been in new clubs for me, where new friendships blossom, Both Lewes and Lowestoft stand out and I look forward to retuning to them soon
One special event took place on Friday 20th February at The Star on Romney Marsh. A special night with Johnny Collins
2009 FE5 News.
On the 31st May both songs "The FE5" and "Harbour" were added to Top Cities web site, this site gives in depth details of the history of The FE5 and of the rise and fall of Folkestone Harbour. It's well worth a look
Happy Return
Folkestone Harbour
The evening of 8th of June saw the launch of a new book "Singing Histories Kent" at The British Library. This publication is a collection of new Kentish folk songs and I'm proud to say features "The FE5". This book will be used in all schools in Kent. There will also be a local launch of the book in Deal Kent on Friday 18th September at the town library, in association with The Kent Song Collective and Music for Change. This launch also coincides with The Deal Maritime Festival so another very busy weekend....
2009 Other News.
June 20th was the annual Beer Festival at Crabble Corn Mill in Dover. This was the fourth year of playing there on the Saturday afternoon, brilliant, time afterwards for a beer or several
August 7th was a very big night. Held at The Wrotham Arms pub in Broadstairs and billed as "Stuart Pendrill and friends" this was the opening night of the Broadstairs festival. The evening started with Solo set followed by Quidnunk. Then a duo with local voice sensation Rocio Day (Rotheia). After the break came the Ramblin Boys and the evening was concluded with an amazing set from the Bottles.
It was a brilliant night and thanks go to all involved; Kerry and Mandy, Ade Dawkins, Jim Bryden Dave Marshal and of course Jenny Ryan for allowing this unique evening to take place in her wonderful establishment
.
Sadly on Thursday 13th August we said farewell to Johnny Collins, it was a wonderful day, so much singing, he would've been furious to have missed it.
Much much more to cram into this year, so more later
Stu
Remember you can often see me popping into various folk clubs in Kent, Deal Folk Club, Crabble Mill Folk Club Dover, Folk at the Drum Stanford, The Star, St Mary in the Marsh and also
occasionally at the Norwich Folk Club. See Gigs page for details.
Don't forget that I also perform as half of The Ramblin' Boys (with Ade Dawkins) and as a third of Quidnunk (with Kerry & Mandy) and as a quarter of The Bottles (the combine talent of The Ramblin' Boys plus Jim Bryden and Dave Marshall) such a musical tart
